intelligent peripheral interface (IPI)

Intelligent Peripheral Interface (IPI) is an intelligent peripheral interface for the autonomous operation of processors and peripheral devices, especially hard disks and tape drives. Peripheral devices can be adapted to this interface to data transfer rates ofup to 25 MB/s. The IPI interface has been specified by ANSI and the International Standards Organization( ISO).
