integrator circuit
For the deformation of non-sinusoidal signals and for the generation of sawtooth signals RC elements are used, which are called integrating elements in these applications and which emulate mathematical integration.
Mathematically, integration is the accumulation of all temporal amplitude values. For example, the integration of a pulse signal is a sawtooth because the voltage values accumulate linearly in time. How exactly the mathematical integration is reproduced depends on the ratio of the duration of the pulse to the time constant of the RC combination. If the ratios are not sufficiently different from each other, then the E-function with which the capacitor is charged will be noticeable in the shape of the curve.
Integrators are used, among other things, in pulse shaping circuits and in filter circuits for smoothing the rectified sinusoidal voltage.
