Horizontal marketplaces are a special form of electronic marketplaces(EM) in business-to-business( B2B). Horizontal marketplaces are the counterpart to vertical marketplaces.
Vertical marketplaces are electronic purchasing platforms that sell products and services along the value chain on the Internet for a specific sector or industry, such as automotive or chemicals, and are therefore cross-sector marketplaces.
Horizontal marketplaces, on the other hand, sell specific products for e.g. office supplies or workwear to companies from different industries and are therefore cross-industry.
