gigahertz (GHz)
The quantity gigahertz (GHz) is the basic unit hertz( Hz) prefixed with giga. One gigahertz is one billion oscillations per second.
Gigahertz is mainly used in mobile communications and satellite transmission. It is also used in microwave and communications technology, WLANs, Bluetooth, ZigBee, Z-Wave, directional radio and radar systems. Clock frequencies in the gigahertz range also play an important role in microprocessor technology. The gigahertz range is characterized by wavelengths in the decimeter, centimeter and millimeter range.
