full duplex switched Ethernet (FDSE)

The 802.3x working group ofIEEE is working on the further development of switched Ethernet towards full duplex switched Ethernet (FDSE). This standard is to support 10 Mbit/s and 100 Mbit/s data rates.

FDSE is used in embedded systems, such as on ships, in aircraft or other missiles, where it is used instead of the previously used MIL-Std 1553B data bus. The reason for this is the need for higher bandwidth and the increasingly complex systems. Avionics Full Duplex Switched Ethernet( AFDX) has emerged from these requirements.
