femto base station
A femto base station is a base station for femto cells. These are small radio cells that cover the home area. Like a standard base station, it establishes a voice and data connection to the mobile network in the residential area.
A femto base station relieves the data traffic of cell towers. Subscribers benefit from the higher signal strength resulting from the proximity of the mobile device to the base station, especially where the mobile signal is weak or unavailable. Femto base stations supplement the normal cellular network and replicate the usual telecommunications infrastructure. The connection to the cellular network is made via Internet telephony( VoIP) over the Internet.
