error ratio

In data communication, error frequency or error rate is the ratio of symbols, words or data blocks received with errors to the total number of symbols, words or data blocks received.

The indication error frequency is a relative value of a frequency, which is determined within a certain finite measuring time. If the error frequency is related to the transmitted bits, then it is the bit error frequency or bit error rate( BER), if it is related to the data blocks, then it is the block error rate( BLER).
