electronic design automation (EDA)

Electronic Design Automation(EDA) is a constructive technique for the design of integrated circuits.

The complexity of chips requires computer-aided design in the arrangement, geometry and wiring of electronic components. Furthermore, design automation simulates the circuit design with mathematical models and supports the preparations for the manufacturing process of the chips. Design automation distinguishes between conceptual design, in which the functionality of the integrated circuit is described, logical implementation, in which the individual electronic components are defined and specified, and physical implementation, in which the connections between the logics are specified.

To ensure compatibility between the different systems, Electronic Design Automation (EDA) uses the Electronic Design Interchange Format( EDIF) as the interchange format. Hardware Description Languages ( HDL) exist for the abstract descriptions of the conceptual design.
