edit decision list (video) (EDL)

An Edit Decision List (EDL) is a list for editing video and video sequences. It consists of time codes that are used to determine the times for electronic editing from one image sequence to the next.

In addition to the editing times, the individual video sequences and their duration are entered in the editing list, furthermore the camera settings, the quality of the video sequences and the scenes can be described. The type of image cut can also be part of the cut list. For example, it can be a hard cut or the cross- fading of two or more scenes.
