dynamic bandwidth allocation (PON) (DBA)

Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation(DBA) is a statistical multiplexing method that increases the available bandwidth of a BPON connection for the individual user by a certain factor.

The DBA method is based on the consideration that not all connected users require the entire bandwidth at the same time, but only some of them. Therefore, the other users can be allocated a higher bandwidth.

In the case of BPON (Broadband Passive Optical Network), the upstream bandwidth is 155 Mbit/s, which is shared by 32 users. The resulting theoretical data rate is increased by the split factor using the DBA method. If this is 1:5, the available bandwidth increases by 20%.
