Digital economy is also often used synonymously with the terms new economy and net economy. Digital Economy is a global economic system based on digital business transactions using electronic media. E-commerce and m-commerce are the main drivers of transactions in the digital economy.

The Digital Economy has been recognized by many governments around the world as an important factor in the economic development of their countries. In some countries, such as Australia, the importance of the Digital Economy is reflected by the appointment of a Minister for this subject area (Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy). The main objective in many countries is to improve the digital infrastructure ( broadband, network availability, etc.) in order to create the optimum conditions for the digital economy in their territories and thus to benefit as much as possible from the economic power of the digital economy.
