data link escape (control character) (DLE)
Data Link Escape (DLE) is a transmission control character (TC7) from the ASCII character set that is placed before and after control information contained in a data stream to distinguish it from the user data. The DLE character changes the meaning of the character immediately following it.
The set of control characters is extended by the DLE code pair. This transfer control character introduces a string that represents a transfer function that is external to the code. Only binary combinations that are assigned to characters or transfer control characters in thecode tables may occur in such a string.
The DLE control character occupies the decimal position 016 in the ASCII character set, hexadecimal the 10.
