common type system (.NET) (CTS)

Common Type System (CTS), as a type concept of the Common Language Specification( CLS), is an essential part of the . NET architecture. The Common Type System ensures that certain data types are standardized so that they are the same in all languages used and are therefore interoperable. It also defines how their specific values are represented in a memory.

Common Type System defines the types and their specific values, which can be interpreted and executed by the Common Language Runtime( CLR). The standardization of types ensures that they can be used in different programming languages. In this context, a type can be the definition of values with the same characteristics, for example, integer or in comma notation, even or odd, positive or negative.

The Common Type System is part of ECMA 335 in which the Common Language Infrastructure( CLI) is also described. Like CLI, CTS was developed by Microsoft for .NET technology.
