common image format (CIF)

Common Image Format(CIF) is a generic name for a commonly used graphics file format.

The Common Image Format designation may be used when the explanations are generic and multiple file formats could be used for the appropriate purpose. For example, RAW formats may be referred to as Common Image Formats when they are raw digital camera file formats, or JPEGs are commonly referred to as Common Image Format for compressed digital photos.

Common Image Format (CIF) is therefore not a specific format, but rather a general file format that is commonly used.
