bit rate management

Bit rate management is the division of a large bit stream into several smaller ones adapted to the corresponding transmission capacities.

Frame relay, among others, recognizes bit rate management as a feature that allows the maximum binary elements of a connection to be transmitted - individually for each virtual connection - to be defined within a specific time interval. The data volume defined in this way is referred to as the Committed Information Rate( CIR).
