V.17

V.17 is an ITU standard for fax. V.17 is for two- wire modems with transmission speeds of 7.2 kbit/s, 9.6 kbit/s, 12 kbit/s and 14.4 kbit/s.

V.17 specifies quadrature amplitude modulation( QAM)in which bit groups of 16, 32, 64, and 128 bits can be used. The carrier signal is in the middle of the frequency range for trunk speech at 1.8 kHz. V.17 operates synchronously and in half- duplex and uses Time Compressing Multiplexing( TCM) and a speed capaasization with Automatic Fallback.
