Hayes command set

The Hayes command set is an internationally used command set for the automatic control of modems, which has become established as a quasi-industry standard. In contrast to the V.25bis command set of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), it supports communication between modem and data terminal equipment.

The Hayes command set is available in a simple basic command set and in an extended version called the AT command set. Use of the AT commands is recommended for unattended operation of application programs. Using the entire extensive Hayes command set gives the user an excellent tool for optimal modem link control. Unfortunately, the extended command set, the AT version, has up to four different variants that are incompatible with each other.
