The Business Transaction Protocol (BTP) is a protocol for business transactions. It was developed by Online Application Interactive Software( OASIS) and is based on a multi-tier transaction model on the Web that makes users independent of resource management.

Business interactions over the Internet are rapidly increasing and require an appropriate transaction protocol for the asynchronous system environments. The BTP protocol is intended to allow application programs to access other applications in other systems and organizations and to change and modify data there.

The Business Transaction Protocol is an XML-based protocol for B2B applications over the Internet. The BTP protocol can be used to exchange complex XML messages between communicating business instances.
