The term Web Content Management Systems(WCMS) is often used synonymously with Content Management Systems(CMS). WCMS systems are content creation and management systems for the Internet, intranets and extranets that support interaction and communication between the user and the website.
The WCMS architecture includes a content management system (CMS) with the appropriate backup systems and protections via firewalls and demilitarized zones( DMZ). Web content management systems are often tied to application servers that support personalization, scaling, and page loads.
There are hundreds of proprietary and open source WCMS systems. These include Typo3, Wordpress, Drupal, Mambo, Joomla, OpenCMS and many others.
