wavelength interchange crossconnect (WIXC)

The Wavelength Interchange Cross-Connect (WIXC) performs the function of a Wavelength Selective Cross-Connect (WSXC) and that of a wavelength converter

. A WIXC cross-connect can convert any input wavelength to a different output wavelength and switch to any connected fiber

. For example, the lowest wavelength from the first fiber can be converted to the fifth wavelength and switched to the second fiber. By design, a Wavelength Interchange Crossconnect (WIXC) consists of a wavelength demultiplexer whose different wavelengths are applied to the inputs of the central crossconnect. The crossconnect can switch each input wavelength to any output, where they are multiplexed onto the connected optical fibers in the downstream wavelength multip lexer.
