vitality, vibrancy (Viiv)

Viiv is Intel's home entertainment platform for entertainment PCs. The media servers, equipped with dual-core processors and Intel chipsets, run Windows XP Media Center Edition( MCE) or Windows Vista Home Premium and are used for communication, integration and management of multimedia content, which they can download from the Internet since they are permanently connected to it.

Since some commercial media services can already be accessed with the media center interface, Intel is counting on further cooperation partners for video-on-demand services, as well as providers for music, games and photos.

Viiv-basedmedia servers are used to integrate a wide variety of media. They are equipped with network cards for the home network, have their own TV tuners, an Internet connection and outputs for video and audio that can be connected directly to existing TVs. Viiv devices are said to be able to communicate wirelessly with each other, with auxiliary devices for streaming media and portable players, and with the Internet. As media centers, they can manage and play movies, TV, music, games and photos. Acoustic playback is supported in 5.1 surround sound. Since a Viiv station forms the media center within the home network, several subscribers can access different media services simultaneously. To protect the content offered by providers, Viiv offers sophisticated copy protection( CP) and supports digital rights management( DRM).

Intel relies on current dual-core processors for the hardware.
