Visits are one of the characteristic user metrics of websites. A visit is a visit to a website, regardless of the number of web pages called up.

With Hypertext Transfer Protocol( HTTP), it is not possible to determine whether the visitor is working in another window or is looking at the website between several clicks. Therefore, visit means a visitor who has made several visits on his web browser in a certain period of time.

The number of visits refers to consecutive website visits in a defined period of time. Only periods of less than 20 (or 30) minutes are registered if page elements are called within this time. Visits are considered to have ended when no page element is called for 20 minutes. Visits, like page impressions, are a criterion for advertising activities.
