virtual private wire service (PWE3) (VPWS)

Ethernet services are distinguished between point-to-point and point-to-multipoint services. The Ethernet service Virtual Private Wire Service (VPWS) is a user-side point-to-point connection via Multi-Protocol Label Switching( MPLS) and IP networks.

In the VPWS service, the service provider's network emulates various connections between users over an MPLS tunnel.

The VPWS service is also known as PseudowireEmulationEdge-to-Edge( PWE3) and is offered as part of the IETF's Virtual Private Networks( VPN) activities at the link layer.
