virtual file system (VFS)

The VFS file system is a virtual file system that can be used to integrate different file system formats such as the file allocation table( FAT) or ISO 9660 into a unified structure. The structure shown corresponds to that of a tree structure.
Virtual File System (VFS) also refers to file systems that are stored in different physical repositories. These can be file systems distributed over several computers or clusters, for example.
