very large scale integration (IC) (VLSI)
Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) is an integrated circuit( IC) technology characterized by high integration density.
VLSI devices have ten thousand (`10^4`) to one hundred thousand (`10^5`) transistors on a chip. This technology, which became controllable in the 1970s, operates with a structure width of 5 µm to 3 µm. Memory devices and microprocessors were built in VLSI.
The successor technology to VLSI is ULSI (Ultra).
