Vertical search engines, in contrast to universal search engines, are thematic or geared to specific target groups. The search results therefore relate to a specific topic such as sports, technology, health, music or to a target group with the same or similar interests. For example, students, young people, sick people or professionals.
Vertical search engines focus their search algorithms on the relevant subject area and only list search results on their results pages that correspond to the subject area. The search results themselves are generally more effective than those of universal search engines.
