vehicle to grid transport protocol (charging) (V2GTP)

Vehicle to Grid Transport Protocol (V2GTP) is a transport protocol used in electric vehicle charging. The V2GTP protocol provides connection control and data transfer between the electric vehicle and the charging station, or smart grid.

The smart grid makes the charging process much more complex, because various pieces of information have to be taken into account during smart charging. For example, the available charging power of the charging station, the state of charge of the batteries and the resulting energy demand, or the charging time and duration.

V2GTP is part of ISO 15118 for Smart Charging and is located on the communication control layer. It uses the underlying protocol stack of transport protocols and switching protocols.
