value added reseller (VAR)

A Value Added Reseller (VAR) refers to a reseller who adds value to the original software, hardware or network component or service. This can be additional components that add value, or services.

In the IT industry, for example, it may be the installation of additional application software for a computer and, in addition, extended warranty services. The VAR provider can offer the combination as a turnkey solution. As for additional services, the reseller may offer consulting, implementations and training for the product it adds value to. Just as a company can develop a turnkey solution including fulfillment solution etc. for the client from a basic application of an online store.

As a result of the comprehensive VAR concepts, the range of resellers has evolved into solution providers offering customer-specific solutions and into managed service providers(MSPs).
