urban computing

Urban computing is an interdisciplinary field in which computer science is applied to municipal tasks such as transportation, construction, environment, economics, ecology, and sociology.

Urban computing refers to the acquisition, integration, and analysis of large and heterogeneous data sets generated by the various urban data sources from sensors, devices, vehicles, buildings, and people. This data can be data from traffic flows, traffic light timings, energy consumption levels, waste generation and air pollution, and many others, which are analyzed and used for control purposes. By analyzing, evaluating and visualizing the data, solutions can be sought for smart urbanism, for the effective use of existing resources, for improving the quality of life and air, and for increasing the efficiency of the energy consumed.
