upper memory block (UMB)

The Upper Memory Block ( UMB) is part of the Upper Memory Area( UMA) and is managed by the memory management to save memory space.

Quickly callable TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) programs can be storedin this upper memory block of the main memory, whose size depends on the memory usage of the UMA, thus keeping more memory space free in the base memory for storing applications. Normally, the UMB memory only requires 64 kB, but there are some Expanded Memory Boards that extend the UMB memory space to 128 KB.
