upper level protocol (ULP)

The term Upper Level Protocols (ULP) is used in Fibre Channel (FC) for the protocols that are based on FC-4 of the FC layer model. Typical ULP protocols are the Small Computer System Interface (SCSI), the IP protocol, High Performance Parallel Interface (HIPPI) and Intelligent Peripheral Interface (IPI).
