For networking home devices, there are wired home networks such as Powerline Communication( PLC) and the Universal Powerline Bus (UPB), and several wireless home networks. The Universal Powerline Bus provides an automation protocol for managing devices in home networks.
The UPB protocol can monitor and control sensors and actuators of home appliances, lighting, security devices, and consumer electronics devices. This includes switches, thermostats, motion detectors, alarm devices, audio and TV equipment. Communication is done with powerline transmission using pulse position modulation( PPM). The UPB protocol can be operated from personalcomputers running Windows and with smartphones.
