universal portable protocol stack (UPPS)

The Universal Portable Protocol Stack (UPPS) is a universal, portable multiprotocol driver in which the implementation of various transport protocols, such as IPX from Novell or TCP/ IP, is specified.

With UPPS, the individual protocol drivers use a common interface through which they access the network. This supports different network topologies and network protocols.

UPPS is used by personalcomputers(PCs) to communicate with other operating systems and allows several different network operating systems to be connected.
