The Universal Business Language (UBL) is a programming language for electronic business (eBusiness) specified by the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS). It uses the Extensible Markup Language (XML) and is based on ebXML

. UBL can be used to create and maintain standardized business documents for quotations, tenders, purchase orders, transactions, shipping documents, acknowledgements of receipt and invoices, which can be used directly in online business. Many of the transactions defined in electronic data interchange (EDI) and EDIFACT are adopted in UBL.
