The English word tray can be translated as insert or drawer in the context of compact discs(CDs) and DVDs.
Both translations are correct. Thus, a tray in a jewel box is the plastic insert on which one or two compact discs ( CD) or DVDs can be placed. This insert has a plastic spring ring in the middle onto which the inner hole of the compact discs is clamped. The tray itself is only slightly larger than compact discs, and it also has cutouts for mini CDs.
In the other case, a tray is a drawer of a CD or DVD drive into which compact discs are inserted. The tray is pulled in by the drive and the optical storage medium is scanned.
