transverse conversion loss (TCL)

Transverse Conversion Loss(TLC) is a cabling parameter that specifies the unbalanced attenuation.

The TCL value is called transverse conversion loss in German and is the logarithmic ratio of an injected symmetrical voltage to the resulting common mode voltage at the injection point. The TCL value represents the earth unbalance that results from coupling of the earth signal in the shielding.

The TLC value occurs in unbalanced cables and is specified only for 10 Gigabit Ethernet over twisted pair, 10GBase-CX4 and 10GBase-T. It applies to a cabling section including plugs and sockets.
