transport MPLS (CET) (T-MPLS)

Since Multi-Protocol Label Switching(MPLS) has a relatively high complexity as a transport technology, Alcatel-Lucent has developed T-MPLS, a simplified version for MPLS, and proposed it for discussion.

Like Provider Backbone Transport( PBT), T-MPLS is Ethernet tunneling for transport networks. It is a reduced version of MPLS that is being worked on for standardization by the Internet Engineering Task Force( IETF) and the ITU-T (G.8110.1). Functionally, T-MPLS provides a connection-oriented packet transport layer over which point-to-point connections can be established for various Layer 2 networks. For connection orientation, an additional label of 20 bits is added to the traffic.

T-MPLS does not support connectionless operation and has no functionality at the network layer, it provides Operation, Administration, and Maintenance( OAM), currently recognizes only Ethernet clients, and is not compatible with MPLS. T-MPLS supports various services such as ATM, frame relay or Ethernet.
