transparent asynchronous transmitter/receiver interface (TAXI)

TAXI (Transparent AsynchronousTransmitter/ReceiverInterface) is a manufacturer-specific designation from Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) for the first interface chipset with which existing FDDI infrastructures can be used for the transmission of ATM cells. This chipset allows FDDI infrastructures to be used as ATM LANs.

The taxi interface supports direct cell transmission up to 100 Mbps over optical media. The ATM cells are transmitted in 4B5B coding over the monomode fibers and multimode fibers specified for FDDI. The connector defined is the MIC connector according to ISO 9314-3.
