transparent OLED (TOLED)
In contrast to standard OLEDs, in transparent OLEDs (TOLED) all layers - the substrate, the anode, the hole transporting layers, the emitting polymer layer and the cathode - are transparent in the inactive state.
When a transparent OLED is activated, the emitted light is emitted in both directions and exits at the front and rear. The light ratio of the emitted light can be varied between 1:1 and 1:5. Viewers can follow the display on both sides of the TOLED display.
Such a TOLED can be constructed as an Active Matrix OLED( AMOLED) and also as a Passive Matrix OLED( PMOLED). TOLED technology can be used for head-up displays and for large-format OLED displays.
