In character-oriented protocols, End of Transmission( EOT) is a transmission control character (TC4), and in bit-oriented protocols it is a bit field that, when set to logic "one", indicates to the receiver that all user data has been sent.

The End of Transmission (EOT) transmission control character from the ASCII character set indicates the end of the transmission period. Used to reset transmitting and receiving stations to their initial state, and triggers disconnection when transmitting data over dial-up connections. In the ASCII character set, EOT control character has ASCII value 004.
