transaction monitor (TAM)

A Transaction Monitor(TAM) is a monitoring function for transactions that is implemented in many database management systems( DBMS).

The Transaction Monitor triggers the start of a transaction with "Start Transaction" and monitors the transaction until it is completed, the "Commit Transaction". If a transaction is aborted, then the transaction steps that have already been executed are unwound. After the unwinding, a consistent state must be available again.
