tracks per inch (tpi)

The track density of magnetic tracks is measured in tracks per inch(tpi).

tpi is the characteristic value for the storage capacity of various storage media and stands for storage density and recording density. For magnetic tapes, floppy dis ks and hard disks, there is also the track density. This is the number of adjacent magnetic tracks. This characteristic value is given in tracks per inch (tpi). On the one hand, this specification depends on the magnetic tape, on the other hand on the magnetic head.
