Touch voltages occur when charged, conductive surfaces and system parts are touched.

Touch voltages occur when the corresponding parts are faulty or the protective earth conductor of the low- voltage mains is not properly connected. It is used to establish a direct connection of the conductive system parts and device parts to the ground potential and to protect persons against impermissible touch voltages.
