total length

The Total Length field is a data field in the IP header. It is a two- byte data field that follows the service field, Type of Service, and in which the total length of the data packet with header and user data is entered in bytes. The maximum datagram length is limited by the 16 bits to 64 KB. The total length field is described in RFC 791.
