timeout

Time-out is a protocol instruction that is activated when a specified time period has been exceeded. With this type of time-out, the component is requested to execute a command within a specified time. If the device does not respond within this time, a time-out is sent and the actions are stopped.

Indata transmission, time-outs are used to avoid unnecessary delays and to improve traffic flow. In this procedure, the sender requests the receiving device to send it an acknowledgement of receipt of the sent data within a certain time period. If the receipt confirmation does not arrive within the set time period, the sender repeats the transmission.

Timeouts also occur when using sensitive or chargeable online connections. If no activity takes place for a certain time, the connection to this website is interrupted, on the one hand to reduce costs, and on the other hand to protect the user.
