The basic principle of Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) is based on the TAS procedure, Time Aware Shaper (TAS), and guarantees minimum transmission latency or real-time synchronization via the Precision Time Protocol
(PTP). Switches with TAS functionality divide the data traffic according to priorities into several queues
, which are processed according to a global schedule. Theframes
are divided intoclasses by VLAN tagging
and time-critical classes are prioritized. The queues are controlled by their own transmission gates. If a transmission gate opens, this means that the other transmission gates are closed. The corresponding queue is then switched through as data traffic.
