temporary threshold shift (audio) (TTS)

Temporary Threshold Shift(TTS) is the temporary shift of the hearing threshold.

When the human ear is exposed to high sound pressure from loud music or noise, the hearing threshold shifts. This process is reversible for a certain time and up to a certain sound pressure level, after which it becomes irreversible and leads to permanent hearing damage caused by a Permanent Threshold Shift( PTS).

Visitors to discotheques are particularly at risk, as sound levels that reach the pain threshold are frequently emitted here.
