temperature cutoff

Temperature cut-off is a technique used to protect batteries against damage and to reduce the number of charging cycles

during charging or discharging. With temperature cut-off, the temperature of the battery is measured continuously during the charging process. If it rises to values above 60 °C, excess pressure can develop in battery cells and damage the battery cell. In this case, the charging process is switched off.

Excessive temperatures can occur during rapid charging, where the battery heats up too quickly and the temperature gets out of control. This is also referred to as thermal runaway. At the same time as the temperature increases, degassing can occur, which is an additional source of danger.
