telehealth

Telemedicine, a subfield of eHealth, is the generic term for medical services via which health-related activities can be carried out across distances and communication systems. The collection of medical data is not bound to place or time and can be transmitted to information systems via existing communication networks, where it can be recorded, processed, diagnosed, archived and used for therapeutic purposes.

The medical data can be patient data, measured values, diagrams, laboratory findings, tables, CT scans and X-rays, which are exchanged between treating physicians, specialists and specialists for diagnosis.

Telemedicine includes all telecommunication techniques with which doctors, computers and robots can communicate with each other. It starts with the exchange of experiences via telephone, continues with the transmission of e-mails and X-ray images, the exchange of standardized file formats, extends to video conferences, training videos, measurement protocols, the possibility to interact with the doctor and ends with remote-controlled robotic operations.
