teardrop attack

Teardrop attacks belong to the group of DoS attacks. They target the reassembly ofTCP/ IP fragments.

In a teardrop attack, fragments are sent that are very long and overlap each other on the receiving server. These are overlong payloads that exceed the allowed packet length. Attempts to recover the gigantic payloads result in errors and servercrashes.

The teardrop attack technique was used in older Windows versions Windows95 and WindowsNT that have Server Message Block( SMB) enabled. Later versions are not vulnerable to teardrop attacks.
